Dogs Really Can Fly!

When I meet another dachshund owner we often can truly relate when we say that dachshunds don't jump… they fly!  If you have a dachshund you will know what I mean.  For those of you who don't, vets will encourage doxie owners to try and keep  doxie's from jumping up and off furniture.  Right.  They tend to have quite the minds of their own.  But, none the less, knowing what I know now, yes I agree and would encourage you to not let them on furniture.

We had built stairs for Frankie to go up on our bed, which she used faithfully.  The problem was when we would open the door after being gone.  She was so excited to see us that she would literally fly off the end of the bed.  She was airborne for quite a few seconds.  Her whole body would stretch to its full length and her ears flew out to the sides to help glide her down to the floor.  They are a very courageous breed for being so little and short.

While at the Farmer's Market last week a gentleman walked up to Frankie to check her out.  He said this about her wheels, "Those are model air plane tires!"  He got the biggest kick out of that fact.  And it was a fact I did not even know, so I get a kick out of it too.  So, Frankie still can "fly."

Today I received this article about a puppy who was born without front legs and now uses model airplane wheels to get around… amazing.  Here's the link to this incredible story http://tinyurl.com/4nm75f

Amazing Dolphin Story!

Last week I heard about a dolphin named Winter who was fit for a prostehetic tail because she lost her tail when it got caught up in a crab net.  She was only two months old at the time.  This is such an incredible, inspirational story, so read on for more, http://www.seewinter.com

Then this week I heard about a company called OrthoPets, http://www.orthopets.com and they combined their skill of custom fabricated orthotic and prosthetic solutions and their love animals to begin this awe-inspiring company.  Again, absolutely amazing what can be done for the animals not only in the wild, but also for our furry friends we so lovingly bring into our homes.  Just like humans with physical challenges, we must remember they are still healthy and their minds are bright and they deserve the chance to live a life of quality.
