I love connecting out in the virtual world. And especially if it is someone with a deep love for dogs like Barbara Lee from California. I won't get into the details on how we connected, I'm just glad we did. She makes and sells the most delicious liver cookie snacks for dogs (OK, I didn't actually taste them, but you'll have to take the "word" of two happy waggin' tails from Kylie and Frankie who love them!). Barbara started making these cookies when her dog was diagnosed with cancer over 6 years ago and was not expected to live. Barbara took matters into her own hands… and well, you read the rest (reprinted from her website, and when you are done reading you might want to check her out on the web, www.livercookies.com)
Willow's Story
In August of 2001, I went to pick Willow up from the vet where she had been groomed. The vet tech said she had found something that I needed to see the vet about before I left with Willow. I was in a hurry and thought is was nothing. I did stay and talk with the vet and was told that Willow had a mass in a very bad area and that we should biopsy it right away. On August 18 I got the news that Willow had a very aggressive type of cancer. I took her to a surgeon that removed as much of the mass as she could. She offered me no hope and very little time with Willow.
The next few days I was immobilized. Then I was a woman on a mission! I learned about dog food and how to read a dog food label. I contacted a doctor of Chinese Medicine and she put Willow on three types of herbs. And I prayed.
I started making the Liver Cookies of Love to coax her to eat. It also helped me to feel like I was doing something loving to help her. I have a doggy day care and started selling the cookies to my clients. Soon they were encouraging me to market my cookies.
I am happy to report that as of March 25, 2008 Willow just turned 14 and is a six year cancer survivor. She still dances for her cookies everyday.
