Darla the Dachshund: Another Recipient of the Frankie Wheelchair Fund

darla 2How cute is this girl?  And does she remind you of anyone?  I swear I’m looking at Frankie!

About two months ago, Sheila Choi of The Fuzzy Pet Foundation (TFPF) contacted me asking if the Frankie Wheelchair Fund could help with this sweet girl. I was thrilled because of donations I’ve received from many of you for the Frankie Wheelchair Fund, that we were able to provide the funds for Darla’s wheelchair from Eddie’s Wheels.

Darla will soon be getting on a plane with a volunteer from TFPF and flying to Connecticut for her potential forever home.  As you might guess, my heart strings really pulled toward this little one. I could have easily taken her in. But alas, I have my love dog on wheels, who I love so very dearly.  But if I could have a whole short, wheelin’ herd of these little ones I’d love it!  But I’m crossing my fingers (toes, arms, legs, eyes…) that when she gets to Connecticut it is the perfect match. I do think whoever gets this sweet girl is going to be so lucky!  Just like me with my Joie.

So please wish Darla luck as she now begins to explore the world once again on her happy wheels and as she transitions to a new life. And again, a huge thank you to everyone who has made donations to the Frankie Wheelchair Fund to make this possible. My heart grows ten times its size every time I can help another little one get their wheels.

If you know of anyone who is interested in donating to the Frankie Wheelchair Fund I’m always accepting donations…. and as always, I’m deeply grateful!

As a reminder if you live in or around the Milwaukee, WI area, the Pewaukee Veterinary Service is offering two upcoming pet massage seminars.  One is this Saturday, March 23rd and the next one is April 4th.  There is no cost for this two hour hands on seminar, but they are asking for a donation for the Frankie Wheelchair Fund.  Their first seminar raised $170!  Massage is great for all pets, but especially those with conditions such as IVDD, arthritis, etc.

The Amazing Levitating and Wheelchair Boinging Dachshund, Sassy!

I’ve been sharing the progress of Sassy, the Dachshund who has found her forever home with LoveyLoaves Special Needs Animal Sanctuary.  A while back she had a double rear amputation do to a birth deformity. Having this amputation also would now allow her to be fitted for a dog wheelchair so she could explore and roam the world (well, ok, only as far as her backyard, that is).

I’ve really grown to love this sweet girl and love updates about her.  I know many of you were so kind and donated for her surgery as well (thank you!!) so I share these two video updates for you that Cheri and Ward Wells of LoveyLoaves sent me to share with you.

First, shortly after her amputation, Sassy began levitating- amazing!

Second, Sassy living life to the fullest! I could watch her “boing” in her wheelchair all day long!

Happy Birthday, Joie! And Check Out Today’s Blog Tour Stop at RowdyKittens.com

Joie turns 5

Before the big celebration of Joie’s birthday today, I must announce my Joyful Paws Jaunt Blog Tour stop for Through Frankie’s Eyes for the week.  It is truly such an honor for me to have been interviewed by Tammy Strobel, author, tiny house dweller and blogger, on her sweet blog, Rowdy Kittens. I’ve admired Tammy for quite some time so I’m just thrilled to share my interview she did with me. Thank you, Tammy!

And now for the who hoo’s s and yippee’s!  Yes!  It is Joie’s 5th birthday today! Well, it is what we have made as her birthday. I don’t know the actual date of her birth since I adopted her. But her mom before me said she knew her birthday was in March, but didn’t know what day. Ever since I held Joie in my arms for the very first time on October 13th, I decided the 13th would be the perfect day of this month to celebrate her birthday.  Though, quite honestly, and I realize this will come as a shock to those who regularly follow my blog… but I’ve been celebrating every day since she came into my life.  I know, I can hear you all gasp!

At any rate, today is a special day, just as all the days since October when Joie arrived into our lives and hearts. We have smiled more, laughed more, and our hearts have grown even more in love and size since this little sweet girl found her way to us. Happy Birthday to my beautiful, sweet, loving dog on wheels, Joie… and thank you for cracking my heart open even more than I could have ever known. I. am. blessed.
