Happy Thanksgiving Friends with a Poem that Really Moved Me

This poem moved me to tears…and though we lose our way now and then, I do believe what this poem speaks of is truth. Wishing each and every one of you a blessed Thanksgiving…. xo, Barbara

What If In the End

What if we fall like leaves,
released,
sometimes pulled by a gust,
sometimes pushed by our tree because it’s time?
Slow somersaults through air
cushioned landing and a tumble across the brown grasses,
until, in stillness and decay, we break down,
sinking to the roots,
feeding the tree that held us for a season.
In the end,
would that not be beautiful?
Would that not be enough?

What if we shoot like stars,
sometimes dust, sometimes rock,
bursting through the atmosphere,
falling in streaks of wonder,
Wow, look!! Did you see that?
echoing in waves, cheering our final brilliance,
our trail of light,
as we burn away in the dark sky
or plummet heavily into the soft earth.
In the end,
would that not be beautiful?
Would that not be enough?

What if we’re more than we can understand,
more than words and creeds,
more than books can teach?
What if we’re both
ancient and young,
timeless and transient,
connected to the trees and earth,
the stars and the milky way?
What if in the end
we’re everything and everywhere?
Or maybe just this once, this place?
Would that not be beautiful?
Would that not be enough?

True Confession about Music I’ve Been Listening to

The month of November came in like a lion and roar it did with many rounds of snow and way below-average temperatures. It truly felt like December.

The first snow is always so magical don’t you think? And soon enough it had me feeling like it was Christmas. I wondered if it was too early to put Christmas music on. Would that be odd? Would I then not want to listen to it the closer we move to Christmas?

Then a few days later I read a newsletter from someone I follow. He talked about someone he knew who was upset that a friend of theirs had already put out her holiday decorations in her home. His advice? Just look away. He meant it in a kind way but the truth was that it was bringing that person joy, so why not just let her be?

It made me think about the Christmas music I wanted to play and since then, I’ve had it playing on a Pandora station when I’m out here in my writing cottage. It’s a soft instrumental station called Winter Solstice.

Even though we’ve been having more normal temperatures the last few days which is expected into next week and the snow is melting, I’ve not changed the station. I realized this morning how much I enjoy the anticipation of Christmas and the spirit it evokes in me.

And who knows, tomorrow or next week I may feel different, but for now, I’m enjoying the happiness it brings me.

xo,

Barbara
