Singing His Song!

Singing his Song!

The last few mornings when walking by the lake I see a cardinal sitting on the green, wrought iron fence that runs along the brick walkway in front of the Osthoff Resort. He looks so pretty against the green and the blue water background.

Yesterday I didn’t see him, but I could hear him. After a bit of following his song, sure enough, there he was at the top of the lamp post, just singing his heart out!

The weather for this 4th of July holiday weekend in Elkhart is absolutely perfect. In the mid-70s to low 80s. Can’t ask for better than that!  And I’m sure Mr. Cardinal agrees.

Out on my morning walk the sky was bluer than blue. Not a cloud in the sky. The sun warmed my skin as I pushed the stroller down the street containing my precious cargo, Miss Gidget, the dapple dachshund with special needs.

We came upon a field of wild flowers where we were greeted by a yellow finch. We watched with smiles on our faces as he glided up and down in the light warm breeze.

And just then it began to snow! “Oh look! Mr. Yellow Finch, it is snowing!” I exclaimed. “You best find a place to take cover.”

He landed quickly on a tall weed as it swayed in the wind. Looking up to the sky, a silly grin spread across his tiny, sweet face.

“Oh dear friend” he said. “Those are not snowflakes but rather wishes. Catch one in your hand, make a wish and it is sure to come true.”

“Oh, of course, silly me!” I said my face turning lightly red.

I took a moment to do just as he said. I caught a wish and lightly held it in my hands as I closed my eyes and silently said my wish.

I opened my hands and the wind gently swept it away.

Down the street, and then up, up, up to the sky went my wish –my wish for Mr. Yellow Finch to always have a place to glide free, soak up the sun, and take delight in a world where there are many good things.

And I wished the same for every living being on this earth.

The End.

YOUR TURN…Make a Wish!

If You Build It, They Will Come.

If You Build It, They Will Come

If you add beauty to the world, it seems nature will nod her head to you and bring unexpected beauty right back to you. If you build it, they will come.

Yesterday afternoon, only two weeks after our new landscaping was put in, Mrs. Robin has taken up residence in the limelight hydrangea tree outside my writing cottage window. She is been very, very busy building quite the nest!

I’ve watched with delight as she has gathered sticks and materials, hopping along the chocolate mulch. I’ll have to take a picture of the whole nest as it is even complete with streamers along the bottom that fly beautifully in the wind. She is quite the interior decorator!  But now I’m wondering if perhaps this is Mr. Robin doing all the building so that Mrs. Robin has a lovely place to lay her eggs?  I guess I better brush up on my bird knowledge.

And then there is Mrs. Wren building a nest inside a bird house that I’ve had a few years, but never saw anyone take up residence in it before. She is quite comical to watch as she approaches the opening with a stick four times her size in length and tries to get it inside.

Such excitement happening right outside my writing cottage windows these days. I don’t know how I’ll get any work done with all the action. I may just have to grab a cup of tea and just enjoy the view.
