Now this is such a curious thing. Kylie has a basket full of stuffed toys I keep in a wicker basket in the kitchen.
She has two that are her favorite. One is a well loved monkey (meaning the stuffing, part of an ear, and eyes are long gone) and a lime green lamb chop who is close to being just as well loved as Mr. Monkey.
The other toys? Well, they are sort of like the misfits on Misfit Island in the Rudolph Christmas tale. They just sit in the basket waiting and waiting for someone to love and play with them.
And then the most curious thing happened. Kylie dug to the bottom of the basket and pulled out the heart stuffed toy. She carried it proudly in her soft jowls into the bedroom and hopped up on the bed next to John.
Was she proclaiming her love for John? Does she know Valentine’s Day is around the corner? Is she hinting at wanting biscuits (since dog’s can’t have chocolate as you know)?
Whatever the message may be we marveled at how adorable and sweet she looked with the red heart.
No doubt in our mind she is a heart dog… put perhaps she thought we forgot (of which we never would!) and it was her way of reminding us.
Oh, Kylie… how you make our hearts gush with love for you!
A few days before Christmas I received a very thoughtful gift from my friend, Dawn.
Inside was the most beautiful red jasper pendant for me and two healing crystals—one for Kylie being the quartz and one for Gidget being the amethyst. Here’s a photo.
And what made it so special is that each stone was chosen specifically for each of us.
The red jasper is full of grounding energy and can help further one’s knowledge of the connection between humans and nature. It’s a gentle stone that works effectively and slowly to help ground someone who is sensitive to energy. Yup, that would be me….and I was so touched by how this is such a perfect stone for me. I love wearing it and have done so just about every day now!
The stone for Kylie, being a Quartz is for strength and clarity. When I took it out of the pouch, I held it in my hand for Kylie to check it out. First she sniffed it, and then she began licking it, thumping her tail against the hardwood floor. She very much approved!
Quartz is sometimes called the “Universal Crystal” because it helps clear away negative energy — it’s good at balancing and harmonizing one’s environment.
But what really touched me to the core was Dawn chose this for Kylie because she feels Kylie carries the energy of Universal Healer.
That is spot on! This has always been Kylie. Holding the space in our home when times aren’t going so well. She just seems to have this knack about bringing calm to our home with her mere presence. She really is one of the sweetest most gentle dogs I’ve ever known—always giving of herself so unselfishly.
Thinking of Kylie as a Universal Healer truly floods my heart with love and makes me love her all the more.
The amethyst for Gidget is a calming and meditative stone. Chosen for Gidget to bring balance, patience and peace. It is such a pretty little stone, and I like that it is so petite, just like Gidget. And purple is definitely her color!
For now I’ve been keeping Gidget and Kylie’s stone contained in their black pouches — Kylie’s is tied to the door of her kennel which is her grounding and comforting space and where she loves to snore the day away until called upon for harmonizing duty.
Gidget’s pouch with her amethyst stone is tied to her kennel where she sleeps at night to help restore balance after her busy days of watching over me as I work in my writing cottage (it’s a tough job, but someone has to do it!).
It really is a comfort to me to know that the energy of the earth and these stones, and how we are all connected, are serving a beautiful purpose in helping all of us to walk more contently and happy while on this earth.
