Meet Jackson: Another Recipient of the Frankie Wheelchair Fund

jackson

Can you believe how cute that face is?  Love it!  Below is a note I received from Jenelle Conley of Lilly Bear’s Rescue about Jackson:

Hi, my name is Jenelle and I run a small rescue in Northeast Indiana called Lilly Bear’s Rescue. We took in a very sweet 3 year old Dachshund named Jackson. He was adopted out to an older woman who loved him so much. After about 4 months in his new home Jackson was chasing a squirrel in his back yard and slipped 3 disk in his back. He was instantly unable to walk. She took him into the vet where they tried steroids because she was unable to afford surgery. The steroids did not help Jackson and she was forced to return him to the rescue. She was just physically unable to take care of him as a handicapped dog.

After taking Jackson back we have been taking him to a Chiropractor and are hopeful he may one day walk again but in the meantime we thought getting him a wheelchair would help him get around better. We began the search for a wheelchair when we found the company Eddies Wheels. They told us about Frankie and offered to build Jackson’s wheelchair for no charge! We are so grateful for your work and just wanted you to know that Frankie was able to help another Dachshund! Thanks again you have changed Jackson’s life!

I don’t know about you, but this never gets old hearing from those we could help… and all because of all of you who have donated to the Frankie Wheelchair Fund to make this possible, I say a big thank you once again. Be sure to stop by Lilly Bear’s Rescue and watch the video of Jackson fetching his toy– the little girl’s giggles are priceless!

Please  join me in wishing Jackson the very best as he live’s a full, happy, quality life in his Eddie’s Wheels wheelchair.

Meet Two More Recipients of The Frankie Wheelchair Fund

Mammabean

I don’t know a lot about Mammabean, but I do know she lives in Zambia, Africa.  She had so many people who helped to get her the wheelchair and the distance it had to travel. Wow!   Looks like Mammabean will continue to live a happy life and that makes my heart sing.

Crystal

Facebook friend and Frankie and Joie fan, Cheryl Turner, was a huge help in being a wonderful resource for Crystal’s family leading them to the Frankie Wheelchair Fund and Eddie’s Wheels.  Here is what she emailed me about Crystal and her situation so I could share with all of you:

Crystal belongs to a lady that takes care of her sister and her mother.  Her sister is in a wheelchair secondary to cerebral palsey, and her mother is in a chair because of her age, I believe. Clearly this lady has a lot on her plate. The owner and the two chair bound women get a lot of pleasure playing with little Crystal. Crystal has both bladder and bowel control. Her owner was carrying her outside to potty several times a day, but otherwise she spent all day on a ‘Dora the explorer’ baby mattress. She has been unable to walk for about 4 months. She has weakening in her front legs from being immobile, however, with a little support under her tummy and some strengthening over time, it looks like she will be in great shape. Her tail told the entire story !

Her tail indeed does tell the whole story!  Click on this link to see Crystal learning to walk in her wheels, crystal2 movie

Please  join me in wishing Mammabean and Crystal the very best as she learns to live a full, happy, quality life in her Eddie’s Wheels wheelchair.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Meet Caseanna: Another Recipient of the Frankie Wheelchair Fund

It’s another beautiful day here at Joyful Paws with another announcement of a recipient of the Frankie Wheelchair Fund.  This is Caseanna and she lives at Out to Pasture Farm and Rescue in Newington, CT.  Out to Pasture gives animals which are elderly, abused, terminally ill and/or physically challenged a home where they can live out their natural lives with the physical and emotional support they deserve.

Caseanna came to Out to Pasture in September 2011. She has serious neurological issues which cause seizures and they are working on keeping them under control. She is currently seeing a top doctor from Tufts and the medication she is on is helping her get around with the other animals.

Carrie Haggart, Founder of Out to Pasture sent me a lovely packet of postcards and their 2013 Friendship calendar as a thank you. She also sent a certificate of a one year sponsorship in my name for Caseanna which is very touching. But this certificate also belongs to all those who have contributed to the fund because I couldn’t do this without you…. so thank you so much.

I’m sure you will all join me in wishing Caseanna the very best as she learns to live a full, happy, quality life in her Eddie’s Wheels wheelchair.
