National Walk ‘N Roll Dog Day Celebration with Lovey Loaves Special Needs Animal Sanctuary

When I created National Walk ‘N Roll Dog Day just a few short weeks ago part of my vision was that animal sanctuaries and shelters around the world would embrace it and celebrate it.  So I was thrilled when Cheri and Ward Wells of Lovey Loaves contacted me, excited about doing just that.  It is so heartwarming to meet others with the same passion as I in sharing the good news that dogs in wheelchairs can live long, happy, quality lives.

So if you happen to live in the Orlando, FL area you can help not only support National Walk ‘N Roll Dog Day, but you can also support Lovey Loaves and all the special work they do to find special needs pets forever homes.  All the details for this event provided in the flyer above.  Please feel free to share this flyer and information with others you may know in that part of the country.

Also we will be celebrating this special day worldwide via the powerful help of the internet so please stay tuned for details.  Hint:  We will sponsor a photo contest, so start taking pictures of your sweet dogs.  Prizes will sponsored by Lovey Loaves, Dachshund Delights and me.  You won’t want to miss this.  You can watch our Facebook page to stay up to date.

Another very exciting thing is happening too that has to do with special needs pets, National Walk ‘N Roll Dog Day and that is an interview I’ve been asked to do with a very special lady.  I’ll announce that as soon as I can– but the interview will be happening mid-September!

PS:  There is still time to order one of the limited edition t-shirts if you want to support our effort in raising funds to help dogs in need get wheelchairs which was established in Frankie’s memory called, The Frankie Fund.  All proceeds from t-shirts are donated to Eddie’s Wheels for The Frankie Fund.  T-shirts are only available through Sept. 12, 2012.  To date I’m so honored, that with the help of others and this fund, we have been able to help six dogs get their wheels!!

Special Needs Pet Feature: Meet Sailor

I used to do a special needs feature of the month on my blog and featured some wonderful pets.  Recently I heard from Danielle. Her dog Sailor become paralyzed over a year ago.  So it has been one year since Sailor had his wheels and she emailed me a picture of him and the questionnaire I always had people fill out who had a special needs pet.  So I hope you enjoy hearing about Sailor today!  I sure did!
1. What is your pets name?
Sailor
2. How old is your pet?
Six
3.Where did you get your pet?
He came from a breeder in Arizona.
4. What is your pet’s physical challenge?
He has IVDD and is paralyzed from T12 down. He cannot walk with his hind legs or go to the bathroom on his own.
5. What is your pet’s favorite thing to do?
Hang out on the docks and play with his brother Sammy (a 5 year old dorkie. Part dachshund and part yorkie) and his girlfriend Millie (a 2 year old yorkie) chasing ducks around the marina.
6. What is your pet’s favorite thing to eat?
Anything! But if I had to pick one thing, I would say blueberries. He would do anything for a blueberry!
7. What do I love most about your pet?
That’s a tough one! I love how he likes to snuggle with me.
8. What has your pet most taught you?
Perseverance, strength, don’t look back, move on!
Danielle added in her email to me that the picture above of Sailor was taken at the Winthrop Yacht Club on July 4th. Almost exactly a year after we got his wheels. She said, “He is loving life and rolls around the docks ‘owning’ them as only a dachshund can! His nickname around the marina is “hot rod” or as sometimes I like to say, “hell on wheels!”
Thank you so much for sharing Sailor with us, Danielle!  He is truly inspirational!

Meet Daysi- The Second Recipient of the Frankie Wheelchair Memorial Fund

Daysi is the second recipient of the Frankie Wheelchair Memorial Fund!   Her friend, Astrid heard about the special fund started in Frankie’s memory to help families in financial need so their dog can get a wheelchair if need be (also helps dogs in rescue get a wheelchair) so she contacted us for her friend’s dog, Daysi who needed help.  Daysi’s wheels went all the way to Puerto Rico!

The fund is set up through Eddie’s Wheels in Frankie’s memory and is helping other dogs who may need wheelchairs.  It makes my heart sing to know Daysi will now live a long, happy, quality life with her wheels.

If you would like to help in this effort of helping less fortunate dogs get a wheelchair that need one, please visit National Walk ‘N Roll Dog Day  or the About Page on Facebook where we have information about this fund.

Please leave a comment below and share your positive and continued healing thoughts for Daysi.

Keep on rolling, Daysi!  We love you!

**A special thank you to Frankie fan’s who made this possible with so many wonderful and generous donations!!!  We could not have done it without you.
