The Official Mayor of Elkhart Lake? Boone Dog.

Photo: Patrick and Connie Mertens

Personally, I think the best part of the Elkhart Lake Farmer’s Market is seeing Boone. He lives across the street from the post office and one block from the market.

Patrick and Connie Mertens belong to this handsome fellow. I hopped off my bike for a few moments to pet Boone’s sweet face and head this morning on my way to the market. He is super friendly. Patrick told me today that this is one of Boone’s favorite things to do and greet all the people who walk past on their way to the market.

I think you can tell by the photo that he takes his job very seriously and enjoys it immensely.

After this photo was posted on Facebook someone said that Boone should be the mayor of Elkhart Lake. We’ve never had a mayor. We are a small village of 950 people, but dare I say, he’d be the kind of mayor I’d want!

It was a bittersweet day as it was a first riding my bike to the market without Gidget in my basket. I also realized how often it was that people I didn’t know would stop me to comment about Gidget and we’d get to talking. Now that I was alone that didn’t happen. It made me a bit sad.

But I realized I was also looking for people with dogs too because well, I just love seeing the dogs. Though I didn’t stop and talk to anyone with a dog. It’s so interesting how animals connect us and seem to make it easier to start a conversation with a total stranger. I kind of missed that today. But I was happy for the opportunity to pet Boone and chat with Patrick.

You’ve got my vote Boone should you decide to run for Mayor of Elkhart Lake!

Barbara

Market Bike. One of the Joy’s of My Life.

market bike 1200I love riding my bike to the Farmer’s Market when I’m not there with my own booth selling my books.

Today was a perfect morning to hop on my bike and make the little over a mile jaunt.  I got so caught up in all the goodies that I realized as I was ready to head home I didn’t have room for my purse to fit back into the back basket!  And to top it off, I had to put the three red velvet cupcakes I bought across the street at the deli in my purse, as I ran out of room!

Fresh cut flowers, cherry tomatoes, large beefy tomato, home made pasta and salsa sauce, freshly picked radishes, spinach, and lettuce, three beautiful photography cards, hand sewn eye glass case (so I hopefully won’t keep losing my glasses!)  and a 6-inch pot of arugula and cilantro.

It was a delicate, slow ride home– but I made it!  As for the red velvet cupcakes– well, they too made it, just a little smooshed is all, which I’m sure won’t affect the delicious taste.

As much as I missed having Joie with me today, it was a good thing I didn’t because she might have had to hitch a ride with someone else!  And I also got to have a little cuddle time with a dear four legged friend of mine, Baci.  Check out my Facebook page to see our sweet photo his mom, Jodee, took of us.

4th of July Recap!

Our little village of 1,200 was hoppin’ this past weekend with many fun festivities!  Frankie and I spent the morning of the 4th at our quanit Farmer’s Market and sold lots of books.  HUGE crowd this year… biggest I have ever seen!  Sunday we helped our local Friends of the Library sell cookies and proceeds go to the library.  We then sat back and watched the parade go by, which was awesome.  Here are some photo’s of the weekend.  Check Frankie out in her “new set of wheels,” which is her Jeep Rubicon Doggie stroller.

Two of Frankie’s biggest fans in Elkhart Lake… they squealed with delight when they saw Frankie and her new wheels

Frankie exhausted after selling cookies before the parade… afterall, hard work looking cute!
