When You Are Tickled By a Hummingbird

As I sauntered onto the deck after lunch and headed for Joyful Pause Cottage I saw Mr. Squirrel once again on the feeder hanging upside down digging for seed from the seed block.

The minute he saw me he jumped down and froze in place. As if I didn’t see him. Silly squirrel. But then he did realize I was standing there and off he bounded into the gulley, onto a branch, and where he sat shaking his tail quite vigorously. No doubt because I interrupted his lunchtime snack.

Watching him and smiling at his antics I’m also about two feet from the hummingbird feeder when one came to feed! I remained as still as possible and thoroughly enjoyed the close encounter.

After a few slurps of nectar, the hummingbird then buzzed in front of my face for about two seconds. Then it circled behind my head and touched my hair! It kind of tickled! I feel like I was blessed by this lovely little creature.

The photo above isn’t one I took. I had my phone in my hand but didn’t want to move for fear of scaring the hummingbird away.

My head is still tingling as I write this. Instead of being touched by an angel, I was tickled by a hummingbird. Perhaps this is a good sign for my week ahead!
