Put on Your Winter Skin and Come Walk with Me

Put on Your Winter Skin and Come Walk with Me

The landscape now changed with winter upon us, it whispered to me to come out and capture it. At first I didn’t want to, pouting to myself that burrrr, it’s just too cold. But the whisper got louder with a promise that it would reward me if I just listened.

And then I heard this song play on Pandora which I’d never heard before… and so I put on my winter skin…. and captured the beauty of what this season has to offer. So listen along, in the cozy and comfy of your chair… and walk along with me in this photo gallery below of photos…

When Accidents Happen

When Accidents Happen

When accidents happen it isn’t always a bad thing. I ran outside the other night to try and capture the fall trees near the athletic field to the west of our house. It was already dark out and they were lit up and glowing in such a special way from the tall lights that tower above them.

I’ve been trying to experiment more with our Canon EOS 50D camera. I didn’t get any good shots of the trees, unfortunately. But when I started walking up the sidewalk to the front door, this image of Kylie and Gidget stopped me dead in my tracks and flooded my heart with joy.

I really didn’t know if the photo would turn out, but was pleasantly surprised at this delightful accident that I just took a chance by pointing and shooting to see what my lens would capture.

Maybe it’s just me, but I just feel this abundance of love radiating from this picture. My sweet dogs watching over me and waiting my return.

Had it Not Been For…

Had it not been for...

This past Saturday I took a workshop: 3C’s – Keys to Better Photography with Frank Juarez. The 3C’s being composition, color and critique.

Had it not been for this workshop I’d likely have missed:

The colorful knit bands on the street lamp above which still has me wondering what they are there for…or…

1894

the 1894 sign at the top of this building with a colorful McDonald’s sign on the left and how I loved the fact this building is over 120 years ago and that back then there was no such thing as a McDonalds…or…

do not enter 2

this “sales” sign doing all it can to entice people to the back of the alley for great deals despite the competition of the DO NOT ENTER sign above it.

All of this I’d likely not have seen if not for learning to look through the lens of a camera in a new and different way.

And the moments I gave pause to what everything meant or was trying to convey.

And how I took pictures of things I never would have otherwise…

which opened my world in a whole new way.

It was the fastest two hours I’ve ever spent…

and now I can’t wait to shoot some more!

There are so many ways to live a creative life…if we just take the time to explore.
