Little Blue Dog

When you go to Little Blue Dog’s website this is what it says:

I am blue

I am bald

I am paralyzed

I’m the product of a puppy mill

I’m a dachshund

I was saved

I have my very own family now

I am loved

I love life

When I came across Telly’s story, I had tears streaming down my face.  Tears for the sadness of Telly’s beginning to life, then tears he was rescued and has a wonderful new home.

Telly is considered a blue dachshund.  This is not a normal color, but yet “breeders” advertise this as unique and get lots more money for them.  This infuriates me!   Blue is a defect color and causes baldness and shortens their life span.  On top of that, Telly is paralyzed and was that way for six months, with NO HELP until www.HUA.org rescued him. How, oh how, can any human being do this to an animal?  My heart sickens with the thought of what Telly had to endure.  Yet, as it says on the website he is the most fun loving, happy little guy.  Dogs easily forgive… I wish I could do that as easily, but my anger wells up at what he was put through.  At times like these when I read stories like this, I feel so helpless.  I wish I could rescue every dog that has been put through hell.  It is so unfair and makes no sense at all.  Too often the almighty dollar rules in people’s heads and God’s creatures suffer because of it.  Dogs are breathing, living, spiritual beings.

I’m glad I have my blog so that I can share this story and hopefully educate people on this blue type of dachshund and that it is not normal, as well as educating about paralysis in dachsie’s.  God Bless this family for taking in Telly though and giving him a loving, caring home. Paralysis in dachshunds is also believed to be because of over breeding.  I did not know that when I got Frankie either.   As much as I know now about this, I can’t help but want to rescue a little paralyzed dachshund someday.  But, I would also encourage others wanting a dachshund to do their homework about getting a purebred dachshund.  Make sure they are a reputable breeder and are breeding for the love of the breed, not the money.

No dog should ever endure what Telly (and thousands) others do.  But by sharing his story, hopefully we can save others.  There are many great organizations cracking down on puppy mills and I applaud them and am so grateful for the work they do.  Please pass along the story of Telly, not out of pity, but out of love and helping to educate others…. then go give your dog a big hug… I just did.  Both Kylie and Frankie were just strongly hugged by me… more of that where that came from.  🙂
