Sweet, Lovable Disabled Dachshund in Need of a New Home

This notice came to me from my friend, Dr. Kim Bloomer about a little guy Dachshund named Sam who needs to find a new home due to his current caretaker who works full time. The note below is from cousin of caretaker, but the contact is Toni at mariahspromise@msn.com.  Please contact Toni asap if you can help!  Thank you.  Sam sounds like a wonderful dog… and oh, so darling!  As you can see in the last photo he does also have a wheelchair.

doxie 1I am reaching out to see if anyone has thoughts or ideas regarding a serious situation that involves a beautiful, sweet, dachshund named Sam.

Sam (my cousin Terry’s dog)  is a four year old doxy who was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease and lost the use of his back legs; Sam became incontinent due to this illness, he has a wheelchair to help him get around.

Sam is a loving, sweet animal but needs to wear diapers. The problem is, Sam recently figured out how to wiggle out of his diapers. Terry is at work all day and comes home to a very frightened Sam who has soiled himself. Terry’s friend does look in on Sam during the day but this is not enough for Sam to have a good quality of life.

I wanted to know if anyone knows a good dachshund rescue or a person who has  time and may be willing to adopt or foster a disabled, young, sweet dog. Sam is neutered and otherwise healthy.

My cousin may be forced to put Sam to sleep if he cannot find a place to take him. Terry is willing to drive Sam anywhere in the country to re-home him.

Photos of Sam below. Wheelchair photo was taken with a vet tech who wanted to adopt Sam, she was offered a full time job that will not allow her to do this. While in her care, this woman said she truly enjoyed caring for and being with Sam.

Thank you so much for reading this email. I appreciate all ideas. Please feel free to share this email with anyone who might be able to help.

Let Freedom Ring. Happy Birthday America.

july 4th 2013 joie 1200A few months ago a lovely woman I’ve never met, but know through Facebook emailed me and asked if she could send Joie a gift. All she needed was her measurements. A week or so later this darling patriotic dress arrived.  It came hanging on a small blue hanger, complete with a red leash.  It fits Joie perfectly!  Such sweet and kind people out there!

It is sometimes hard for me to say yes when someone offers to send a gift. But I’m reminded that, like myself, there are many people who find great gratification in doing for others. I know Sandy is going through a tough time with a sickness right now, so if we can all say a prayer for her that she is well soon, I hope our collective thoughts and prayers will help her heal.

Tomorrow is America’s Birthday. How fortunate we are to live in America, though yes, we have our troubles. But I believe people like Sandy, with big hearts, as well as many others finding ways in which to give back are what makes our country so beautiful.  I am also deeply grateful for the men and women who serve so that freedom can continue to ring.

I can’t help but feel an even deeper tug of emotion run through my heart now when I see military represented in our parades– because of my brother having served our country, it hits so close to home now. He is safe and well, back on American soil. I will always be grateful he made it home.

Tomorrow I will celebrate the brave hero my brother  is to me, leaving his family for nine months to help fight for our country. I will also honor all those who continue to serve with a silent thank you from my heart to theirs.

No big plans for John and I, just a little road trip to find a place for snacks and a beverage. But I know no matter where our travels take us, I will be sure to keep my eyes wide open and take in all that is so grand and beautiful in this land of ours.
