Come Join Me. A Walking Tour Around My Little Town (via Instagram)

A walking tour around my little town, #elkhartlake. Come join me!

I know there are many who love summer. I do, too. But it’s  that time of year, when the mornings are cooler and days reach the mid-70s that I feel most alive.

As we inch our way toward my favorite season, fall, I’m full up with inspiration. It’s also my favorite time of the year to walk around our little town of 950 which is also a popular tourist destination.

From my home on the north end of the village, downtown I walk, with Gidget in her stroller, past shops and restaurants (we have some of the best restaurants around!), three large resorts, and many homes with lovely front porches or something that catches my fancy and makes me smile.

For the longest time I’ve wanted to capture the sweet and inspiring spots I see along my route and share them.

Well, today is the day I begin! I invite you to follow along as I post photos of my little town to my Instagram feed from now through fall.

I hope you will come along on the walk with me and enjoy Elkhart Lake through my eyes.

Working from Home

Working from home
Gidget loves the lake too!

One of the things I love about working from home is that when I need a break, I can hop on my bike and ride down to the lake.

It can feel lonely at times working by myself, so this makes me feel part of the world again. I’m not complaining, as this is the way I prefer to work and so grateful I can be home.

But there are times when I just need to be reminded of what else is happening around me.

It’s a mediation all its own, really. Just being near the water, hearing the laughter of kids on the beach, and people strolling by eating ice cream is a soothing balm for me at times.

New Friends Visiting JoyfulPaws Writing Cottage

My New Friends Visiting Joyfulpaws Writing Cottage

I didn’t invite them. They just showed up.

Right outside my window, next to my desk where I write in my writing cottage.

Well, okay, I confess. It might have something to do with the fact I put out a new bird feeder. One I got from a friend for my birthday.

But ah-hem that is the operative word here, isn’t it?  Bird?

This is one funny looking bird – but he sure is adorable. He was holding on for dear life in this photo above as he contemplated his next move – and I contemplated my s-l-o-w move of reaching behind me to grab my good camera to get the shot.

A little over a week ago this fella below showed up almost immediately after I put the feeder out (mind you I hadn’t seen one in my yard all summer!).

My friend saw the photo I placed on Facebook and said I should immediately take the bird food out and replace with a plant.

I just hadn’t the heart. These little ones need to eat too.

Besides, I sure do love the company and they make me smile every time I see them hanging outside my window.

I didn’t invite them. But I’m sure glad they showed up. My new friends. I love them.
