New Life in Our Backyard – Video

As I write this blog post there is an Oriole and Robin splashing in the bird bath. First time I’ve ever witnessed that!

Today around 8:15am I was listening to one of my mentors do an oracle reading. The card she pulled was about evolution and new life. It had the image of a sweet baby on the card.

Within moments after she pulled the card and was talking about it, I looked up to see a mama deer and her fawn come into our yard. More new life. I don’t remember in the 32-years that we’ve lived here seeing a fawn. It was such a treat!

I thought about how the oracle reading of new life and seeing the fawn connects with my life right now.

It’s been a little over one month since my doxie, Gidget passed away. Some moments have been sad as I miss her sweet and loving presence and cuddling with her. But as the days flow by, I’m finding my way. And one thing that has been so beautiful is that my love is deepening even more for her. And I know she feels that. I feel it. And that feels incredibly good.

I’ve been practicing staying in the moment and trying to not let my mind race ahead of me wondering what is next, but just being open to allowing life to flow to me, instead of forcing it.

My life is already anew in many ways just with how I move about my days now. It’s bittersweet at times, but I’m reminding myself to appreciate the gift of this time for myself now.

Moving through loss is a form of evolution as I reflect on what Gidget brought to my life and what I’ve deepened into with her teaching since she has moved on. This in itself has brought new life to me.

John and I are also going to go look at something tomorrow morning….though I can’t say right now what that is. But in case you are thinking it’s a dog, no, that’s not what it is.

But it’s something that may bring another aspect of new life for us if it all works out. If not now, I believe it will manifest soon and I’ll be sure to share with you. I have to share it with you now that I’ve teased you, right?  😉

At any rate, I wanted to share this adorable fawn and her dear (deer!) mama with you. Life is always evolving and there are so many gifts in that.

P.S. Tomorrow I’ll be sharing the interview with my friend and new author, Lori Helke and photos of her adorable renovated vintage camper named Beatrice. Stay tuned!

Barbara

Vintage Camper, Inspiring New Author & Sweet Zoe the Dog Makes for A Heart Fulfilled Day

Me and Zoe

On Monday I spent part of the day inside a fixed up vintage camper named Beatrice. It’s a quaint and delightful writing retreat that rests on the property of my friend Lori Helke. It was her dream to have a space of her own and with the help of her husband, they renovated the camper which now has a book about her story!

Beatrice will be traveling this summer in Wisconsin as Lori will be doing some book signing events with her newly published children’s book.

I spent the morning interviewing Lori inside her Paris themed camper. I’ll be sharing the interview, plus photos of Beatrice this Sunday in my newsletter and right here on my blog. So stay tuned!

We had so much fun! I think you’ll find the interview inspiring and insightful. We talked about Lori’s love of travel and how it fulfills a special space in her heart, overcoming fear, the inner journey, mid-life, the power of an oracle reading, and her children’s book, plus a sneak peek at what she is working on writing next.

It really made my day that Lori’s dog, Zoe wanted to be with us inside Beatrice. She even jumped up on the bench next to me and let me hug and pet her all I wanted. I think she knew my heart needed it.

Here’s a sneak peek of Lori’s children’s book. I smiled the whole way through reading it when I got home yesterday. It’s endearing, touching, funny, and heartwarming. And Zoe is on the cover!

You can get a signed copy on Lori’s website here.

I can’t wait to share the interview with you soon!

XO,

Barbara

Making Magic: Oracle and Animal Guidance for the Week

Our cards this week are Flexible in protection (reverse) and White Raven.

Flexible in protection is asking us where it is we are being too rigid in our lives. When we stay stagnant or stuck in a certain way of perceiving something or a situation we can potentially lose out on a way in which we could grow.

With White Raven as our second card and symbolic of magic, creation and deeper awareness ask yourself in relation to flexibility how you can see something in a new or different way.

How often do we get stuck in our logical and analytical mind? White Raven reminds us to pause and tune into the deeper aspect of ourselves, within the center of our heart, and really listen for the answer of what is true. This is where the magic is.

In the book, The Key to Spirit Animals, author Dawn Brunke writes “Raven is a powerful bird that oversees changes in consciousness, helping us to deepen awareness and move between worlds.”

When we get locked in something or an outcome to be a certain way, being inflexible, Raven can help us tap into our deeper self in connection with the Divine to hear the truth of what is best.

Yesterday I ordered a book by author Brianna Saussy called Making Magic – Weaving Together the Everyday and the Extraordinary. Then just this morning in my inbox was an email from Sounds True who published Brianna’s book. It was an announcement of an interview they recently did with her and I listened to part of it before I pulled today’s cards.

After pulling the cards for our reading I looked up to notice on my bulletin board where I keep photos and inspirational quotes this quote from the book, The Secret Garden:

I shall live forever and ever…I shall find out thousands and thousands of things. I shall find out about people and creatures and everything that grows and I shall never stop MAKING MAGIC.

How perfect I thought to be surrounded by all this symbolism of magic. And something I’ve realized over the years is that we can have magic not only in big moments but in many simple and what we might deem as small moments.

I tend to be someone who loves routine and the perfectionistic part of me can get in the way of being too rigid and thus losing out on the magic that could come my way.

But when I allow myself to listen to my heart and follow its lead, I’m often granted the gift of magic. And in those moments I feel that deeply in my bones as the truth of who I am. That IS magic while at the same time that is REAL.

And I don’t know about you, but the more magical moments in my life, the more I want to be like that quote above from The Secret Garden. The more it happens, the better I feel, and the more I want to keep living in this way.
