Last week when I posted a photo on Facebook of this piece I created on an 8 x 10 birchwood panel as a gift for a friend who recently retired, I received so many lovely comments! So I decided to offer it for sale as a print in my online website shop. 5 x 7 is $15 and an 8 x 10 is $20 plus $5.00 shipping for either size.
For as long as I’ve known my friend, which has been over 20 years now, she has always adored acorns. One day in May we were visiting in my Joyful Pause Cottage studio when she spied a few dried oak leaves on my art table. She said how much she loved them. Right then I knew what I was going to create for her as a gift for her approaching new phase of life.
I included the bluebird, symbolic of happiness as a way of finding joy and new adventures in the autumn of one’s life.
The Oak tree from which the sweet acorns grow also known as the Tree of Life symbolic of longevity and considered one of the most sacred tress in many traditions.
Creating this piece had me contemplating once again, the autumn of my life that I am just on the cusp of as I begin my 60th orbit around the sun having just turned 59 a few weeks ago.
So much loving energy went into this piece and brought much peace and contentment as I worked on it…and I’m happy to say my friend was deeply touched and thrilled by it too.

Just as I sat down to write this post these lyrics went through my mind: “What the world needs now is love sweet love.”
Love for the animal kingdom and opening myself to their teachings has definitely brought more love into my life.
My new dimensional animal art is inspired by the idea that animals offer such diverse teachings. They guide us to open to different perspectives and encourage us to welcome in the many different dimensions of ourselves.
This is a good thing! Because each layer and facet of who we are shapes us and has something of value to offer us. Even the parts of us that we may struggle with.
And the animals are here on this planet as loving messengers and most willing to serve us every step of the way toward loving all parts of who we are.
There have been many different animals that have guided me to go beneath the surface and explore with love what it was I needed to heal. I’m forever grateful to them for this. And why I was inspired to create these new pieces of art that are now for sale.
You can see more photos of these in my Etsy shop, plus a short video of each to view the dimensional aspect with the layers and how the animals ‘pop’ from the wood surface.
They are mixed media on 3 x 5 wooden templates and include pieces of nature I collect on my walks or from around my Joyful Pause Cottage such as flowers, feathers, branches, and stones.
Each piece also includes a few sparkly gems, because the animals most definitely are masters at helping us to shine our light and live with more joy!
P.S. My Etsy shop will be closed from March 4th through April 10th as I take some time away to enjoy myself with my husband in our Rpod camper and a warm climate.
Early one morning, the day after I began creating this rabbit and mushroom animal oracle art collage, I woke to see two rabbits chasing each other in my backyard.
As I continue to create pieces of animal oracle art the personal bonus for me is a deeper connection to the natural world. While sometimes I create because I am inspired by an animal I encounter, sometimes I come across an image or photo in a magazine or on Instagram and that is what inspires my creative juju to flow. Either way, it’s always a great feeling as I can hardly wait to get to my art table to begin the creative process!
This time it was an image I saw on Instagram that got my mind to open to a new possibility. Then when I saw the two rabbits playing outside Joyful Pause Cottage the day after I’d laid out how I wanted the collage to look, well, that was just another wink from the Universe that it was exactly where I was meant to be in this creation.
The collages I’ve made so far (and sold most of them) include dried flowers, leaves, and/or feathers I find around my cottage or on my daily walks. This one has Queen Anne’s Lace, as well as, some dried leaves. No doubt the rabbits love to take time to stop and smell the flowers and also enjoy bedding down in the leaves for extra warmth.
This 5″ x 7″ collage, which comes with a personalized oracle message that is included on the back, is for sale in my Etsy shop. It is $45.00 plus $5.00 shipping. If it is calling to you, you can buy it here. SOLD!Or you can email me at barb@joyfulpaws.com. I take checks, PayPal and Venmo.
Many of my originals that I’ve sold I also now have prints for sale of them as either 5″ x 7″ or 8″ x 10.” This chipmunk is a recent print I added to my Etsy shop here…
And what inspired this one was this sassy little one who was determined to stock up on birdseed for the coming winter months…and I might add, he/she was quite successful!…and as I finish writing this post is back again for more! 🙂
