Currently on My Art Table: An Ode to Cicada and their Special Emergence this Summer.

A few weeks ago I began to hear about a phenomona which hasn’t happened since 1803 and how this summer millions of cicadas will emerge in the midwest.

There is a 13 year called Brood XIX and a 17 year called Brood XIII of cicada emerging during this summer and what is being called a co-emergence. These two specific broods with different life cycles co-emerge only every 221 years.

Soooo, as I’ve been hearing more about this special event I’ve also heard some ‘negative’ press with the warning: ‘Cover your ears! It will be deafening!’

This perspective immediately made me want to be an advocate for Cicada and encourage us to lean into what it is we can see about ourselves and learn from Cicada at this time.

It has me pondering where in our lives are we not singing our own songs? I see this rare occurrence and this large body of Cicada coming up from underground as a mirror to guide us back to remembering why we are here on this planet. And that we are here to sing from our hearts! A time for us to come out of from the darkness we’ve been in and forgetting that we are here to explore, discover, evolve, and emerge into more of a state of peace and joy .

And instead of covering our ears, it’s an invitation to open them and ‘tune into’- as in really listening deeply – to what it is we may need to actually hear within our own inner world to help us to live in the truth of who we really are.

It’s an opportunity to add our voice to this co-emergence that we just happen to be here for at this time as again, it only happens every 221 years. And and how exciting is it we are here to witness this!?

I’ll be adding an oracle message to the back and once complete this Cicada will be for sale here my website.

P.S. If you’d like to learn more about where in the midwest they will emerge and other information, I found this website helpful:  https://cicadas.uconn.edu/

How Animals Helped My Inner Child. Join Me for An Interactive Online Event Honoring Your Inner Child.

For over 25 years I consciously carried a vision of trauma from my childhood I just couldn’t shake. Every time it presented itself to me, I’d push it away into the dark recess of my mind.

It was too painful to look at. I also questioned my sanity at times. Where was this coming from, I’d often wonder. It can’t be real.

Over those years I’d share in the love and teachings from many dogs, each mirroring for me a lesson that helped me grow in my evolution. In 2014 I’d welcome into my heart a tiny grey and black dappled dachshund with special needs named Gidget. I knew from the moment I set eyes on her she was a Buddha in a dog’s body.

She was the catalyst with her unshakable persistence who would eventually shake things up for me and help me to face this trauma.

It wasn’t easy. At one point, I wanted to die instead of facing this because it was painful. But along with the love and support of Gidget, I’d have other animal guides along the way that walked the path with me.

One I’d never have “expected” and one many fear, Snake, was potent in her teaching that I knew I just had to finally shed what was haunting me. Horse who would guide me to stand in my power and Wolf who encouraged me to keep my heart open even when it feels pain.

Even sharing with others how animals have guided me felt scary for me at the beginning of my journey. Would people think I’m crazy?!

Snake Goddess Doll to honor Snake – made by Maria Wulf of Fullmoonfiberart

But the love, compassion, and peace I feel from the animal world is what brought me to where I am today.

I was never alone, though at times I felt that way.

In their honor and honoring who I am also, is why I love helping others connect more deeply not only with their pets, but also connecting to the wisdom of all animals, in conjunction with loving all aspects of themselves. Because we truly are all connected and there is so much to gain in our evolution and it’s how we can live in harmony with all that is.

At my deepest core I know that animals want us to live with inner peace. They are here to help guide us and as we heal, they too heal. How cool is that?!

Wisdom of the Wild Ones – The Encyclopedia of Animal Spirit Guides

If you can’t get into the wild, well, the next best thing just might be this book with 699 pages of animals by Bernadette King. One, if not the only, most comprehensive book about the many creatures we share this planet with (as well as mythical ones too).

I remember as a kid having encyclopedias and this is exactly what this book is. Chockfull of information such as key powers and energies of animals, prayer, and intention for each animal, and also broken down into messages for each animal in the categories of spirit animal, totem animal, power animal, and animal dreams. Bernadette also includes insights on working with cardinal directions, seasons, elements, colors, and numerology.

What I appreciate about animal medicine is that there is indeed a plethora of ways in which to work with their teachings. And they are just waiting to be your teacher and help you to live your best life. So all you have to do is just open the cover and begin your self-guided safari or walk in nature right from your living room sofa.

While this book may require a table all its own (I have mine sitting on a TV tray in Joyful Pause Cottage Studio) – I love having it nearby to open a page at random to see what guidance an animal offers or to intentionally sit down and learn more about a particular animal.

You can learn more about Bernadette’s book on her website here.
