Meet Maggie: The 36th Paralyzed Dog Granted a Wheelchair thru The Frankie Wheelchair Fund with help from Hailey’s Wheels for Life

annie cA picture is worth a thousand words, right? Well, I think this picture says that and so much more!

Meet little Maggie who was recently granted a wheelchair. Her wheelchair granted as a collaborative effort with The Frankie Wheelchair Fund and Hailey’s Wheels for Life working together, combining our funds, and helping this little girl gain mobility.

I heard about Maggie through Matt Pike, founder of Hailey’s Wheels for Life. He forwarded an email from Annie, who was trying to help her friend, Beverly (who as you can see also has physical challenges) and her dog, Maggie who has IVDD and is paralyzed.

This joint effort was such a joy! To see little Maggie wheeling down the ramp of her home brings tears to my eyes — and to see Beverly’s smile, knowing her little girl now has a quality life — well, that is just priceless.

Annie also shot some video footage which I compiled together in one video – sorry for the sideways shots – this is how the videos came to me and I wasn’t sure how to fix. But you will see how happy Maggie is and wait until you see her roll down the ramp!

Meet the Newest Dog to Get a Wheelchair Courtesy of The Frankie Wheelchair Fund

buckshot

Meet this handsome fellow named, Buckshot. He is the 35th lucky dog to receive a wheelchair through The Frankie Wheelchair Fund.

He is about 5 years old and went down last March. He is doing well walking on his own sometimes, but needs the aid of the wheelchair for other not so good times.  His owners hope that in time, he will gain all his strength back so he can walk completely on his own.

We hope so too, Buckshot!

Learn more about The Frankie Wheelchair Fund

You can learn more on our website, National Walk ‘N Roll Dog Day where you can apply for funds or donate.

We rely on the kindness and generosity of others to help disabled dogs in need of a wheelchair. This season of giving, if you are looking for a wonderful way in which to give back, perhaps you would consider a donation to our fund?  We’d be so grateful.  Wheelchairs cost anywhere from $385 for small carts up to $1,500 for large carts — so every little bit helps!

***Wheelchair I recommend and work with for The Frankie Wheelchair Fund is Eddie’s Wheels.

A poem: Precious Paralyzed Pooch

IMG_0564Frankie

You are not broken.

You simply now have wheels to help you run.

Pity is not a word to describe you,

but happy and full of life is what you are,

if we are open to looking past what others may see

as disabled or “poor you.”

The world at your feet, and wheels that propel you,

moving you forward

to chase squirrels and butterflies,

smelling every blade of grass and flower along the way,

barking for us to come play.

To come see the world through your eyes

a world still full of wonder

no matter how you move through it,

Wheels, or legs, that carry you.

You challenge us see more clearly with our eyes

feel deeper with our hearts,

and open our souls wider to

what is real.

The spirit of you still the same

shining bright as ever

and beaming into our hearts

to move us closer to the rich understanding

of what compassion and unconditional love is all about.

This is you, precious paralyzed pooch,

who has opened a window to our soul

to an enlightenment of accepting who we are

and to what we can yet become.
