Out on my morning walk the sky was bluer than blue. Not a cloud in the sky. The sun warmed my skin as I pushed the stroller down the street containing my precious cargo, Miss Gidget, the dapple dachshund with special needs.

We came upon a field of wild flowers where we were greeted by a yellow finch. We watched with smiles on our faces as he glided up and down in the light warm breeze.

And just then it began to snow! “Oh look! Mr. Yellow Finch, it is snowing!” I exclaimed. “You best find a place to take cover.”

He landed quickly on a tall weed as it swayed in the wind. Looking up to the sky, a silly grin spread across his tiny, sweet face.

“Oh dear friend” he said. “Those are not snowflakes but rather wishes. Catch one in your hand, make a wish and it is sure to come true.”

“Oh, of course, silly me!” I said my face turning lightly red.

I took a moment to do just as he said. I caught a wish and lightly held it in my hands as I closed my eyes and silently said my wish.

I opened my hands and the wind gently swept it away.

Down the street, and then up, up, up to the sky went my wish –my wish for Mr. Yellow Finch to always have a place to glide free, soak up the sun, and take delight in a world where there are many good things.

And I wished the same for every living being on this earth.

The End.

YOUR TURN…Make a Wish!

It’s Here! It’s Here! A Summer Read I’ve Been Waiting For! “Lily and the Octopus.”

It's Here! It's Here! A Summer Read I've Been Eager to Read: "Lily and the Octopus."
Miss Gidget settling in for a great read

I’ve been eagerly awaiting this new book, Lily and the Octopus by Steven Rowley, to come out and arrive at my local bookstore. Today was the day! In the car Miss Gidget and I hopped, and tried not to speed the ten minutes to Book Heads Book Store.

Normally I don’t recommend a book until after I’ve read it, but I’ve heard sooooo many good things about this book. And come on! It’s got a dachshund on the front cover – it’s just got to be good!

I can just feel it’s one of those books that will make me shed a few tears (okay, probably A LOT of tears!). One that I will resonate with. One that I won’t want to end. But one that will stay in my heart forever.

A snippet from the inside flap: This is a story about that special someone: the one you trust, the one you can’t live without. Lily and the Octopus reminds us how it feels to love fiercely, how difficult it can be to let go, and how the fight for those we love is the greatest fight of all.

Yup… I already need tissues.  Okay, here we go…… open the cover and begin!

A Gathering of Authors. We’d Love to Meet You!

May14 final poster

I want to let you know of a special event I’m taking part in this Saturday, May 14th, 2016 – A Gathering of (local) Authors. Hosted by independent book store Book Heads and Seranya Art Studios, both in historic downtown Plymouth, WI.

This is a first time event and I was happy to learn of the many authors right here in my county. I can’t wait to meet them!

I’ve always enjoyed hearing how other writers got their start or what inspires them to write. I hope you do too and will consider coming to check out the many different and talented writers that are taking part in this wonderful event.

There will be readings/talks and signings beginning at 10:30am and running through 3:30pm with a wide variety of genres – something for everyone!

I will be doing a brief talk and reading from my memoir Through Frankie’s Eyes at Seranya Art Studios at 11:30am and then again at 1:30pm at Book Heads Book Store.
