Sweet, Lovable Disabled Dachshund in Need of a New Home

This notice came to me from my friend, Dr. Kim Bloomer about a little guy Dachshund named Sam who needs to find a new home due to his current caretaker who works full time. The note below is from cousin of caretaker, but the contact is Toni at mariahspromise@msn.com.  Please contact Toni asap if you can help!  Thank you.  Sam sounds like a wonderful dog… and oh, so darling!  As you can see in the last photo he does also have a wheelchair.

doxie 1I am reaching out to see if anyone has thoughts or ideas regarding a serious situation that involves a beautiful, sweet, dachshund named Sam.

Sam (my cousin Terry’s dog)  is a four year old doxy who was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease and lost the use of his back legs; Sam became incontinent due to this illness, he has a wheelchair to help him get around.

Sam is a loving, sweet animal but needs to wear diapers. The problem is, Sam recently figured out how to wiggle out of his diapers. Terry is at work all day and comes home to a very frightened Sam who has soiled himself. Terry’s friend does look in on Sam during the day but this is not enough for Sam to have a good quality of life.

I wanted to know if anyone knows a good dachshund rescue or a person who has  time and may be willing to adopt or foster a disabled, young, sweet dog. Sam is neutered and otherwise healthy.

My cousin may be forced to put Sam to sleep if he cannot find a place to take him. Terry is willing to drive Sam anywhere in the country to re-home him.

Photos of Sam below. Wheelchair photo was taken with a vet tech who wanted to adopt Sam, she was offered a full time job that will not allow her to do this. While in her care, this woman said she truly enjoyed caring for and being with Sam.

Thank you so much for reading this email. I appreciate all ideas. Please feel free to share this email with anyone who might be able to help.

July is IVDD Awareness Month: “Through Frankie’s Eyes” at Special Price to Benefit Dodgerslist

ivdd awareness

As you may know July is IVDD Awareness Month.

On a very personal note, I’m so grateful for Dodgerslist and the peace of mind they gave me when Frankie was diagnosed with IVDD in 2006. It has become a passionate mission of mine to continue to spread the word about IVDD sharing that it is not a death sentence.

I’ve teamed up with Dodgerslist this month to help with their mission of saving lives and getting more information into the right hands so no other dogs are put to sleep needlessly. As we all know, these dogs can go on to live a happy and quality life with the right education.

Through Frankie's Eyes w award stickerFor the month of July I’m offering a special price on my new award-winning inspirational memoir about my journey with Frankie, her IVDD diagnoses, and her life in a dog wheelchair– Through Frankie’s Eyes: One woman’s journey to her authentic self and the dog on wheels who led the way. **20% of the sales of the proceeds will be donated to Dodgerslist for printing and distribution of brochures or for however they feel will be beneficial in continuing to get the word out.

CLICK HERE TO ORDER YOUR COPY TODAY!  (be sure to use this special link to order so Dodgerslist is credited for the sale)

If you’ve already purchased a copy of my book perhaps you would be consider purchasing a copy to two as gifts for family and friends. It makes a great inspirational gift!

Each copy will be autographed by me and stamped (pawtographed) with Frankie’s authentic paw print. (for more about my book click here for reviews and excerpt)

**Not only does 20% of proceeds benefit Dodgerslist, but a portion of the proceeds also benefits the Frankie Wheelchair Fund helping dogs with mobility challenges that need a dog wheelchair.  Good feeling vibes all the way around!

The Fishing and Shopping Dachshund Named Olive

olive oneOlive and her mom, Jill were one of the first people that became my friends via my website, books and Facebook when I began my work with Frankie many years ago.  Olive has IVDD and though she has a dog wheelchair, she’d rather not use it these days.

Jill keeps me updated on Olive and I really do feel like Olive is part of my family too. I’ve come to love her so much.

She is now over 14-years old, and though her health is not the best, Jill and her husband, Eric enjoy every minute they can with her. She is one lucky dog!

Here she is fishing and below she got to go shopping at Lowe’s. The love and devotion Jill and Eric have given this sweet girl is so beautiful. I’m so proud and happy to call all of them friends.
