Sneak Peek Synopsis of My New Book "Wisdom Found in the Pause - Joie's Gift" Coming Soon!

The writing and production of this book has been quite the journey and one I can say now that I’m so happy I followed through on. There is a deeply gratifying satisfaction in moving through all the steps, and at times mental anguish, to finally be to this point. I can look back and say yes, it was worth it and it was absolutely divine timing in how it all flowed.

And it won’t be long now! Soon I will announce the release of my new book, Wisdom Found in the Pause – Joie’s Gift. I’m putting together a special gift package offer and excited to share it with you soon, so please do stay tuned, okay? You’ve been so great in hanging with me this long and I’m grateful!

In the meantime I want to share with you my book synopsis which appears on the back cover. I hope it resonates in some way for you or piques your curiosity that you will want to know more.

When we get lost while driving, it is common sense to pull over, reroute the GPS, and perhaps change course. When it comes to the course of our lives, however, we often take a very different approach. Each of us has an “internal GPS” – that still, small voice inside us guiding us to our best and highest good. But what if that small voice is begging us to slow down and re-evaluate our lives? If you’re like most people, you judge this as a waste of time or being lazy. In Wisdom Found in the Pause, Barbara Techel explores both the real-time beauty and long-term benefits of life’s transitional periods.

In what has become Techel’s trademark, Wisdom Found in the Pause shares the profound life lessons we can learn from animals. Her first book, Through Frankie’s Eyes: One woman’s journey to her authentic self, and the dog on wheels who led the way, told the story of how a paralyzed dachshund named Frankie led Barbara to groundbreaking work with children, persons with disabilities, and the elderly. After Frankie’s death, Barbara often felt called to embark on another direction, yet she was reluctant to let go of the purpose and identity she had so closely tied herself to.

Wisdom Found in the Pause is the story of Joie, another paralyzed dachshund, who would serve as Barbara’s teacher, friend, and ultimately angel. Joie’s unexpected death would remind Barbara that the only way to really change our lives is from within.  Along the way she received spiritual signposts  – some subtle, some profound – that  convinced her she was on the right path. Through this journey she realized the most valuable gift we can give ourselves is the time to slow down, hear and heed our inner thoughts, for this is how we will welcome  that sweet stillness of being, that wisdom found in the pause.

Update on My New Book: "Wisdom Found in the Pause- Joie's Gift." Getting Closer to Publication!

I awoke today to find an email from my graphic designer that the interior layout of my book is done – woo hoo!!!  Now it is my job to review it on my computer which I’ll be doing today and tomorrow. I’m so close to getting ready to submit it to printer for a proof to be printed…which means I’m that much closer to letting you know when you can pre-order…

I’m excited to also let you know that I’ll be doing a special edition of this book to include a specially designed item I’ve put together just for you.

That’s all for today as I must get busy, busy, busy!

I want to say a very special thank you to all who either sent me a personal note via email, left a comment on the blog post about voting, or left a comment and/or voted on my Facebook page last week. There were close to 400 of you who shared your thoughts!

While I must admit I was leaning a wee bit more toward the cover above, I was still torn. Reaching out to you for your feedback, I took into consideration the many helpful suggestions and thoughts. I took them back to Caryn, my book cover designer, of Lantern Glow Design.  She was able to lighten the background, make Joie pop a bit more, and make the reflection a bit clearer in the water. I’m very happy with the final result!

What I love about this choice is how warm and inviting it is. While I loved the image of the sky in the background also, I felt that didn’t convey the same warmth I was shooting for. But the GOOD NEWS is that the sky photo fits perfectly for the inside of the book!  It just so happens that this book is divided into two sections and the sky photo will introduce Part Two:

Part One is titled “Joie” and it’s about how Joie came into my life, how we worked through her physical challenges, developed a deeper bond, and the exciting time we had when we were on the set of the film The Surface where as you may recall she plays a small part in the movie.

Part Two is titled “The Pause.” After Joie passed away in August of 2013, I took a two month sabbatical. It’s during that time of reflection and learning to just be that I was able to accept letting go of a chapter in my life that my identity had been so closely tied to, and how I learned to accept and see the many blessings that being in transition is all about. I discovered much wisdom in slowing down and taking time to listen to my heart, hence the title: Wisdom Found in the Pause.

I’m still shooting for a fall 2016 release though don’t have a specific date yet. The formatting of the book is going well, which I’ve undertaken myself this time around. Oh how I love all the resources we now have available for independent publishers!

So please do stay tuned…. and thank you again so very much for all your suggestions and comments. Please know that I truly appreciated each and every one of them!

You are all the best!!
