Connecting with an Animal Friend Who Has Passed Over

Connecting with an animal friend who has passed over
My SoulCollage(r) card I made after Dawn took me through a meditation

I’ve had some beautiful experiences over the years of not only connecting with an animal friend while they were alive, but after they have physically left this world also.

Each a gift in a profound way. Each a way in which I could heal on another level.

I truly believe animals are the mirrors to our souls, often reflecting what is going on in our own lives, trying to help us learn and understand, and deepen our compassion.

One thing because of my work and having written a few books, I often hear from others and their struggle to move through the loss of an animal friend. They want to know how to move through many feelings and often how to let go of guilt.

I’ve thought about how I could possibly help for quite some time now and I’m really excited to announce an online course I’ve co-created with a dear friend of mine, who is an animal communicator, and author of many books, Dawn Baumann Brunke.

The Guilt Gremlin

The Guilt Gremlin
Kylie always exuding peace and calm.

The guilt gremlin showed up this morning as I lingered in bed longer than usual.

He was doing everything in his power to get me up and out onto my daily walk.

But I didn’t want to budge.

“I’m not giving into you today” I said. “Why don’t you either go back to sleep or find someone else to pester.”

I’ve been going full tilt for a few weeks now with lots on my plate, mostly put there by me.

It’s been an interesting view for me as I find myself in this busy place, while at the same time working on my new book.

A book about Joie, my dachshund in a wheelchair who only lived for 10 months after I adopted her in 2012. And her gift to me to see and understand how important it is to incorporate stillness and quiet into my life when I need it.

So as I lay in bed this morning just wanting to soak in the gift of lingering to hear this battle going on inside my head was a reminder that I needed to pay attention.

A reminder that it’s okay to honor what I needed this morning and not fight it or try to push it away.

And a reminder to trust there is a reason and the reason being I needed to replenish a bit of my energy by just laying low a little longer before charging out into the world again.

To confirm all of this, once I got up, and headed to the kitchen, with Gidget on my heels, I saw Kylie lying at the front door, gazing out into the yard, content and at peace.

Reflecting back to me that just being sometimes is exactly what I need. The doing will get done. It always does.

Made with Love. Bandanas for Dogs with Special Needs

Made with Love. Bandanas for Dogs with Special Needs

I think these new bandanas that Catherine from Blankets in Bloom has come up with is a wonderful idea.  So much so, I had to order one for Gidget and share with you today.

Catherine loves to help dogs in her own special way by using her talent of sewing.

Wanting to help dogs with special needs she came up with the idea of a bandana that states a dogs special need if they have one to help alert others when out in public.

I know personally, for me, I worry that kids may approach Gidget’s back with rough hands or try to pick her up.  With a bad back, I have to be careful about that with her.

I’ve also been concerned since she has had seizures and that she may have an episode while out in public, that people will give her the space she needs.

So I loved the idea of stating these special needs on a bandana when Catherine emailed me and asked me what I thought.

It’s also another way in which I can educate others about Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD) spreading awareness of the options available.  And that there are options for dogs with seizures too.

The option is great if you have a dog that is blind or deaf also as that is hard to know when you approach a dog.

Of course, if you don’t have a dog with special needs, you can also just get a fun, snazzy bandana with your dogs name on it, in whatever colors you like.  Catherine will custom make one for you.

If interested, check out her Etsy sight today!  A percentage of all profits goes to help dogs in rescue.  Now that is pawsome too!
