Life With A Snugglebug. Another New First.

Today was the first time Joie snuggled up with me on my over-sized wicker chair and ottoman and we took a quick cat nap together.  Not that we haven’t snuggled since she got here, because believe me, we do that every chance I get!  But today was the first time we cuddled together in my writing cottage in my wicker chair.

I couldn’t help but think about how “firsts” are so fun when you have a new pet but how hard they are when you lose a pet.  So many “firsts” I went through this summer after Frankie passed.  The first morning not helping her go potty, the first time not filling her bowl, the first time I couldn’t hold her, the first time I ran an errand without her, the first time I took a walk without her, the first night I went to bed without her at my side, and on and on the firsts went.  Getting through all of them was difficult and felt overwhelmingly heavy at times.

As I’ve now experienced lots of new firsts with Joie it’s such a good place to be in my heart again. It is such an amazing reminder that this is all part of life.  You can’t have a first without a last.  You can’t have sunshine without rain. You can’t have happy without sad. You can’t have life without death. Without firsts and lasts we’d never really truly appreciate and value this thing called life.

National Walk ‘N Roll Dog Day Celebration with Lovey Loaves Special Needs Animal Sanctuary

When I created National Walk ‘N Roll Dog Day just a few short weeks ago part of my vision was that animal sanctuaries and shelters around the world would embrace it and celebrate it.  So I was thrilled when Cheri and Ward Wells of Lovey Loaves contacted me, excited about doing just that.  It is so heartwarming to meet others with the same passion as I in sharing the good news that dogs in wheelchairs can live long, happy, quality lives.

So if you happen to live in the Orlando, FL area you can help not only support National Walk ‘N Roll Dog Day, but you can also support Lovey Loaves and all the special work they do to find special needs pets forever homes.  All the details for this event provided in the flyer above.  Please feel free to share this flyer and information with others you may know in that part of the country.

Also we will be celebrating this special day worldwide via the powerful help of the internet so please stay tuned for details.  Hint:  We will sponsor a photo contest, so start taking pictures of your sweet dogs.  Prizes will sponsored by Lovey Loaves, Dachshund Delights and me.  You won’t want to miss this.  You can watch our Facebook page to stay up to date.

Another very exciting thing is happening too that has to do with special needs pets, National Walk ‘N Roll Dog Day and that is an interview I’ve been asked to do with a very special lady.  I’ll announce that as soon as I can– but the interview will be happening mid-September!

PS:  There is still time to order one of the limited edition t-shirts if you want to support our effort in raising funds to help dogs in need get wheelchairs which was established in Frankie’s memory called, The Frankie Fund.  All proceeds from t-shirts are donated to Eddie’s Wheels for The Frankie Fund.  T-shirts are only available through Sept. 12, 2012.  To date I’m so honored, that with the help of others and this fund, we have been able to help six dogs get their wheels!!

Blind Dog Gets New Lease On Life

The minute I saw the face of this adorable dog in the video, my eyes filled with tears. Not out of pity, but out of admiration for the will of life she has. How often do we look at these animals and take pity? What are they teaching us? They are teaching us to love them no matter what…. and to embrace that non judgment and love and use it in our daily lives not only towards animals, but towards our fellow human friends as well.  This is the reason I believe God gave me my Frankie… to see the world in a whole new way. To love like I’ve never loved before, to catch myself when I judge, to be a better human being, and to pass along compassion every chance I can.  This is what this video reminds me to do… as well as seeing the face of little Frankie each morning when I awake.
