dog cart

Joy in My Inbox.

20140905_135130I received the following email today that really touched me.

Dear Barbara,

I happened across your website about a week ago. I watched Frankie’s video & cried. Back in 2006, we (my roommate & I) went to Eddie’s Wheels for a cart for our tweenie doxie, Sassy. They are wonderful people. Our doxie passed away in 2007. Just recently I came across her cart. Actually, I always knew where it was, I just didn’t want to face it and her loss. Your website has given us the push to re-donate the cart back to them. We are driving there next week. (We live in Massachusetts). I already spoke to them and really examined the cart for any issues. It is in excellent condition. While I have other wieners at home, none of them are her size. Thank you, Barbara for the extra “push.” -Donna

I completely understand how hard it is to let go of something that was so much a part of their beloved doxie’s life — it becomes so much a part of them.

While for a few weeks after Frankie’s paralysis I couldn’t imagine her living the rest of her life in a wheelchair, it became just who she was. I didn’t see the wheels. I just saw a dog who was happy and living life to the fullest.

What a beautiful gift to give back as Donna will be doing in donating her doxie’s wheelchair back to Eddie’s Wheels to help someone else who may not be able to afford a wheelchair for their dog. I’m honored to be a part of the journey.

I still have Frankie’s wheelchair, which was adjusted to then fit Joie. But now it does sit empty in our spare room. For me, it will stay. I don’t know if Gidget may need it someday, so I hold onto it. But I know there will come a day when I will do the same as Donna is going to do. I will give it with joy knowing it will help another.

Meet Ruby: She is the 27th Dog The Frankie Wheelchair Fund has Granted a Wheelchair. She is also Available for Adoption!

ruby cJust look at this face!  Ruby is quite the doll and from what I understand from her foster mom, Pat, she is just as sweet as she looks.

The Frankie Wheelchair Fund recently provided funds for this cutie pie so she could have a wheelchair to get around better, and hopefully increase her chances of being adopted.

She is five years old. She was surrendered by her owner in North Carolina because her dad had spinal surgery and her mom’s business was closing. They wanted Ruby to have the best possible care, so they made the very tough decision of letting her go.

She is currently listed for adoption through Dachshund Rescue of North America where you can read more about this darling little girl if you are interested in adopting her.  She is currently being cared for by foster mom extraordinaire, Pat, out of Ohio.

Pat shared with me that Ruby has had laser acupuncture which has Ruby wanting to stand. Pat has also observed Ruby spinal walk a few times so she will be starting water therapy with her. She is doing very well in her cart (wheelchair) as long as the leash is attached.

Pat shared with me that Ruby is a very sweet girl and not at all aggressive, though she does not like other dogs in her face. Ruby LOVES to lay in the sun and always finds her way to a sun spot after breakfast every day.

Note:  Ruby’s wheelchair is custom-made by Eddie’s Wheels for Pets which is the company I believe in and have been working with to provide these wheelchairs to pets in needs. I appreciate the quality and all they do to help these special needs dogs.

As always, I’m very grateful to those who support my mission with donations or purchases made from my partners who donate a portion of proceeds to The Frankie Wheelchair Fund. We have added a new partner recently who makes adorable custom-made dachshund ring holders.

Meet Lacey! #22 Recipient of a Wheelchair from The Frankie Wheelchair Fund

lacey 2As the mom of an IVDD pup, and two before that who lived a happy life in wheels, this is the best gift ever for Mother’s Day to share with you that another little dog gets her wheels because of The Frankie Wheelchair Fund.

Meet Lacey. There was a whole fleet of people who helped this little girl find her new home. It was an honor to play a small part in a big journey for Lacey as she left a home who loved her so much, but couldn’t care for her any longer, and had the courage to give her a better life.

From Patricia to Tamara, Michelle, Eli and Zachary who played a part in helping Lacey find her way to Helen who is now her new forever mom.

She had some medical issues to contend with, one of which was to have her tail amputated. But as you can see in the photo, she is doing just fine. She is learning to walk in her wheelchair and I have no doubt she will soon be doing zoomies all around the yard soon! This should also help her work off some of the weight she had gained.

Wishing Lacey all the very best!
