She is a passionate advocate for dogs with intevertebral disc disease (IVDD) and dogs in wheelchairs. When her dog, Frankie, became paralyzed and was custom-fitted for a wheelchair, Barbara realized the beautiful opportunity she had to spread a positive message.

In August 2012 Barbara founded National Walk ‘N Roll Dog Day in memory of Frankie and in honor of all dogs in wheelchairs around the world. She also started the Frankie Wheelchair Fund which helps dogs with wheelchairs who may not have otherwise been able to get one. To date the fund has helped 19 dogs.
