Miss G & Marie. Best Friends.

g and marie 12A few weeks ago I wrote about my friend, Marie, who I’ve been getting to know better. She used to be the mysterious, artsy lady to me that lived on the corner downtown in the big white house. My fascination with her began quite a few years ago.

But I got to know her when I took the workshop “The Artists Way” and then getting together for tea last year, and then again this summer.

She makes the most beautiful fabric pillow and handbags. Miss G and I stop at her white tent every Saturday when we visit our local Famer’s and Artisans Market where she sells her one of a kind hand sewn treasures.

This past Saturday Marie asked if she could hold Gidget. She bent over to pet Gidget exclaiming  “Gidget is my favorite dog!”

So as you can see, they are becoming best friends. I love how their salt and pepper hair/fur matches each other. Gidget such a wise and contemplative dog, so much like my friend, Marie, which makes me feel so lucky to be in the presence of both their company.

Meet Ruby: She is the 27th Dog The Frankie Wheelchair Fund has Granted a Wheelchair. She is also Available for Adoption!

ruby cJust look at this face!  Ruby is quite the doll and from what I understand from her foster mom, Pat, she is just as sweet as she looks.

The Frankie Wheelchair Fund recently provided funds for this cutie pie so she could have a wheelchair to get around better, and hopefully increase her chances of being adopted.

She is five years old. She was surrendered by her owner in North Carolina because her dad had spinal surgery and her mom’s business was closing. They wanted Ruby to have the best possible care, so they made the very tough decision of letting her go.

She is currently listed for adoption through Dachshund Rescue of North America where you can read more about this darling little girl if you are interested in adopting her.  She is currently being cared for by foster mom extraordinaire, Pat, out of Ohio.

Pat shared with me that Ruby has had laser acupuncture which has Ruby wanting to stand. Pat has also observed Ruby spinal walk a few times so she will be starting water therapy with her. She is doing very well in her cart (wheelchair) as long as the leash is attached.

Pat shared with me that Ruby is a very sweet girl and not at all aggressive, though she does not like other dogs in her face. Ruby LOVES to lay in the sun and always finds her way to a sun spot after breakfast every day.

Note:  Ruby’s wheelchair is custom-made by Eddie’s Wheels for Pets which is the company I believe in and have been working with to provide these wheelchairs to pets in needs. I appreciate the quality and all they do to help these special needs dogs.

As always, I’m very grateful to those who support my mission with donations or purchases made from my partners who donate a portion of proceeds to The Frankie Wheelchair Fund. We have added a new partner recently who makes adorable custom-made dachshund ring holders.

If you’d like to make a donation and/or become an ambassador helping us help dogs in need of a wheelchair, please click on the heart below. Or if you’d like to apply for the fund, please click here.

Then…and Now.

frankie and cole 20 months eCole was just 20 months old when he began visiting Frankie the Walk ‘N Roll Dogs statue at Bookworm Gardens.

It has now become a tradition that he visits there every year and has his picture taken with Frankie.

Now five years old, this is his picture with Frankie taken recently.

What a gift it is to me to know that Frankie continues to inspire even though she is no longer physically here. For all the days I cried for the loss of her, I now rejoice in the joy that she left behind and the many generations she will continue to have a positive impact on.

I’m so grateful when someone shares a photo of a little one with Frankie’s likeness, like Cole’s mom, Ann did on my Facebook page. It is a reminder of all the blessings Frankie was, and will always be.

If you are new to my blog, you can learn more about Frankie through the books I’ve written about her.
